8 AF 883 Escort Mustang Fighter Group 2 AD, 3 AD, 1 AD

March 12, 1945: Town was crowded with refugees coming from East-Prussia and Pomerania mostly by carriage or disembarked in harbor. All escaped Soviets. There were no air raid shelters.
A raid occurred that lasted about 70 minutes. 671 Heavies unloaded 3500 bombs - approx. 20,000 people killed.
I, 14 years old at the time, survived. I am now trying to locate those men who are former fighter pilots of the P-51 Mustangs belonging to the above listed groups.

Wanting to know: Did fighters strafe the whole region after bombing or only attack the ferry which Germans used to escape to Eastern bank on their way to Russian front?

Any information greatly appreciated. Please contact me or post response on the board, preferably both. Thank you very much,

Herbert
