: I recently recieved an email stateing that # 42-30203 : Shack-Up", was originally assigned to 1st. Lt. Frank Kelly(pilot) and 2nd Lt. D. B. Adams(co-pilot. I has a picture of the Kelly Crew in what appears to be #42-30203. Does anyone have any more information about this crew and this aircraft. On July 30th. 1943, this crew flew another B-17 and were shot down, #42-30203 was in for repairs, they had to replace both wings. Any information or pictures about this aircraft and this original crewwould be greatly appreciated.
Keith, According to a book I have (Heavy Bombers of the Mighty Eighth), B-17 42-30203 of the 388th BG, 560th BS with radio call letter "G" was shot down by a German Fighter on Sept 6, 1943 and crashed at or near Goudray, ?. The pilot was Lt. Roy H. Mohr, Jr. There were 4 KIA and 6 POW. The loss of the crew was documented by MACR 3126.
I'm not sure that any specific plane was assigned to a particular crew. Units had more than one crew per plane. George Kasparian
