On Sept. 6th, 1943, enroute home from the bombing mission to Stuttgart, Germany, the planes of the 388th were hit hard by German Fighters. Lt. Roy Mohr's aircraft was hit by flak and fighter fire, and was reported to be on fire. S/Sgt Robert Ammarell was wounded badly and was bailed out of the burning aircraft, right after that, the rest of the crew bailed out. It was said that 8 men succesfully bailed out. It was also stated that there was time for Lt. Mohr, and Lt. Schulz to bail out. Lt. Schulz, S/Sgt Bernard Becker, adn T/Sgt Hartzell Jones are listed in 2 different French/American Cemetaries. 6 Crewmembers returned, 3 were rescued by the French Resistence, and the other 3 were Pow's. I know that S/Sgt. Robert Ammarell was repatriated in a prisoner of war exchange, due to his serious combat wounds. Lt. Mohr simply disappeared, never to be heard from again. I am working with a contact in France to find out what happened to him. My Great Uncle, T/Sgt. Halleck H. Hasson was the Radio Operator on this Aircraft. The name of the B-17F was "Shack-UP" # 42-30203,388th B/G--560th B/S. I also would like to ask anyone from the 96th B/G for any information about the Stuttgart Mission. The 388th stayed with 96th when they bombed Strausboug. If anyone has any pictures other than the ones posted on the web site, MIghty 8th Cross reference,or any type of information about the disappearance of Lt. Roy H. Mohr, please contact me at kdkutt@aol.com Thanks, Keith.
