: My apologies for not submitting more information: My grandfather was Lt. Charles Lundsberg. The Flak Shak was a B-17 from the 385th BG. It would have had a square G on the tail and the nose art would have been of an outhouse with flak surrounding it and a gun sticking out of the moon-window. I know after that B-17 landed in Belgium on 1 engine, he and his crew were assigned to another B-17 called "The Reluctant Lady"
: Thank you all for your help :)

Charles,

My reference doesn't have any information on Flak Shak other than it being a 385th BG plane. No serial number listed or anything else about it. "

"Reluctant Lady" was 42-107035 L of the 548th Squadron. It failed to return on 26 Sept 1944 due to flak and crashed at Wesermunde, Germany. The MACR 10204 covering this plane and crew is available by contacting Lynn.Gamma@MAXWELL.AF.MIL and there is no charge.
Crew list:
Lt Charles Lundsberg (P) POW
2Lt J. M. Ellzey (CP) POW
2Lt Robert E. Smallman (N) POW
Lt John W. Wise (B) POW
T/Sgt Cosmo Rabasco (TT) POW
T/Sgt Forrest O. Sampson (RO) POW
SSgt William r. Sizer (BT) POW
S/Sgt Jack M. Walker (WG) POW
S/Sgt Edward D. Morgan (TG) POW
Sgt Alexander Behr Jr (PH) POW

You might gain more information by going to www.armyairforces.com and posting on the 385th BG forum found under the Groups by Number category. There is no mention of a photo of either plane in my reference.

Vic
