I have belatedly learned of the passing away of Gus Mencow and am greatly saddened by the news. I never met Gus but we became known to eachother when I was researching a WW2 painting which I had been given and which featured B17's returning to Thorpe Abbotts's on 10th October 1943. Gus provided me with information about the painting, the aircraft and some of the crew members and we exchanged messages over the years and I was priveleged to have made his acquaintance. A great man and a great loss.
