: Probably the greatest (subconscious) influence on me as I grew up was watching the Mr. Wizard show in the 50s. Eventually, I turned into a rather geeky scientist/engineer and just can't get away from trying to find an explanation for how things work...
: The reason for the post is to let you know that, while not a veteran of the Mighty 8th:
: "...the young actor entered the Army Air Forces as a private. As a B-24 bomber pilot, he flew 56 missions with the Fifteenth Air Force and subsequently participated in the invasion of Italy. Discharged as s Captain in 1945, Herbert had earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters."
: Amazingly, I was thinking of him just yesterday.
: Thanks, Mr. Wizard, for all you have given me.

Me too Fred. Mr Wizzard fueled that same desire in me and is one of the reasons I became an electrical engineer. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that he had a Model A. "How and why things work the way they do", the questions not taught often enough to the youth today.
We need another "Mr. Wizzard".
