Don Herbert - Mr. Wizard - has died

Probably the greatest (subconscious) influence on me as I grew up was watching the Mr. Wizard show in the 50s. Eventually, I turned into a rather geeky scientist/engineer and just can't get away from trying to find an explanation for how things work...

The reason for the post is to let you know that, while not a veteran of the Mighty 8th:

"...the young actor entered the Army Air Forces as a private. As a B-24 bomber pilot, he flew 56 missions with the Fifteenth Air Force and subsequently participated in the invasion of Italy. Discharged as s Captain in 1945, Herbert had earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters."

Amazingly, I was thinking of him just yesterday.
