I've been visiting here since probably 1998. 1999 at the very latest.
At that time this board was a lot more active. Part of the reason that the use may have declined is because the number of individuals who had a first hand interest in the subject are no longer with us. Perhaps as sad as their passing, is the lack of interest by those they have left behind. Descendents of the "greatest generation" don't post because not only do they lack information, they lack the interest needed for questions. As a child I spent hours with dad's WW II scrapbook and knew a lot about what he did. One generation later, I doubt that any of my three nephews, his grandchildren, even know what theater he was in. I once scanned most of a scrapbook that belonged to a man who was part of the 93rd BG. He had a very eventful combat career. At the time I scanned it, it was the property of someone who had bought it at an auction. The family didn't even care enough to keep it.
As far as finding the message board is concerned, why not just bookmark it once you are here? I haven't been to the homepage in years.
I haven't posted very much because most of the time I feel whatever knowledge I have has been covered in a previous replying post. If I can't add something useful, I won't. I have never had a post removed, nor can I recall reading an inoffensive post that was gone at a later date. For that matter, excepting the spam that has become prevalent in the last year or so, I've never read an offensive post here.
As for posts not being answered...well, someone who knows the answer has to read it. As I've already said, I seldom post because, compared to some of the regulars here anyway, I have limited resources to look anything up.
Ultimately, for this or any other message board to flourish, there has to be interest. Woodworking boards I visit will often have more posts in an hour than this one does in a month. This doesn’t reflect any problems with this particular board, it just means that there are more people interested in various aspects of woodworking than there are people interested in the history of a particular numbered Air Force.
