Ed: I have every book Freeman ever published and to answer you question, it depends on what your interests are, how you plan to use the book, and how much experience you have with the 8th.

If you are a generalist and just have a thirst for knowledge about the 8th, his first book, The Mighty Eighth, is what I would recommend. If your interest is in the old airfields used by the 8th Heavies and Fighter, Airfields of the
8th - Then and Now,would be a good choice. If you plan to research missions by the 8th, Mighty 8th War Diary has a ton of information about each mission dispatched. If you want more in-depth knowlege of the equipment and airplanes used by the 8th, Mighty 8th War Manual would be a good choice. If you want to know more about the markings of the planes that flew with the 8th, Mighty 8th War Paint & Heraldry would be good.

He has so many more, but these are ones I would recommend for a first time buyer. Reprints are every bit as good as the originals.

Blue Skies!
Kevin
