: I am trying to locate squadron, plane(possibility of the Milk Wagon), any pictures, any stories. He was from PA, and after the war settled in Wilcox, PA. Got his commission in TX, went to GA to get his flight training, or the other way around. There is a possiblity that he was stationed at Riddlesten, in England. Any help would be appreciated.
Hello Ina:
I found a B-17G serial number 43-37756 named "Milk Wagon". Roger Freeman's book "The B-17 Flying Fortress Story" indicates this B-17 was delivered to the AAF on 18 May 1944 and assigned to the 447th BG/708th BS at Rattlesden on 9 June 1944. It completed 129 missions with no aborts and was returned to the U.S. on 9 July 1945. Then on to Kingman, AZ and was salvaged of on 25 November 1945.
Hope this helps.
David
