Boreham, Station 161, 4 m NE of Chelmsford: built by 861st US Aviat. Engion. Bn. in 1943, 394th Bomb Group 9th USAAF (B26 Marauders), 455th AAA, later (March 1945) 315th Troup Carrier Group (9th USAAF, C47 Skytrain), now: motor car test centre, best preserved field in Essex, with tower and pundit code, and facilities of Essex Police Air Support Unit, two memorials on the airfield.
Chipping Ongar, Station 162: 9 m W of Chelmsford, aka Willingale airfield built by 831st Aviation Engin. Bn., 387th (556/557/558/559 BS) Bomb Group (B26 Marauders), March 1945 61st Troup Carrier Group (C47s), RAF Technical Training Command until 1948; now: agricultural land, Airscene Museum in Blake Hall in nearby Bobbingworth
