As Ed stated, the size (numbers)of airplanes per squadron varied from the early days increasing in size toward the end of the war. Each Group had FOUR squadrons however. In the case of the 306th BG; it was comprised of the 367th, 368th, 369th and the 423rd BSs. The 306th BG along with the 305th and 92nd BGs made up the 40th Combat Wing which was in the First Air Division. If you need a close approximation of the squadron size in the fall 1944, I could give you a contact.
