: : : I have been able to account for all of crew of B-17G 42-31982 91st BG/322ndBS,shot down 20 July 1944, with exception of tail gunner Sgt. John R. Peterson. Peterson was POW and I assume was living at end of war.
: : Tracy, I checked a book I have which lists the names and hometowns of many 8th AF crewmembers listed on MACRs. It lists John R. Peterson's next-of-kin hometown as Bushnell, IL. His status is listed as POW which means that he probably survived the war.
: : I next checked the SSDI for John R. Peterson and did find one whose last residence was Bushnell, Illinois. His dates are listed as 29 Dec 1923-01 Aug 1993. This may be the one who was the tailgunner with the 91st BG. George Kasparian
Thanks, George. I strongly suspect this is the John R. Peterson I seek.I have checked obits for Bushnell ,Galesburg and Peoria, but have found none that have archives back to 1993.If this is the man then only one of five taken POW is still living.
