I know it's an obscure question, but exactly how was the money sent home? Did he fill out a form and the money was then automatically sent? In what way was it sent? How was it that most, but not all, of his pay was sent? I would appreciate any information about these and other details about how an airman's pay was managed and delivered. They are important to me for a writing project.

I was in the USAF from Dec 1950 to Dec 1953 as an Enlisted Man. In 1951, I signed up for the standard $10,000 National Service Life Insurance before it became free around April, 1951. I filled out an "Allotment" form which authorized the government to deduct $6.50 from my pay each month.
When the NSLI premium became a benefit, I filled out another allotment form to have around $10.00 sent home to my mother each payday. She received a treasury check each month until I was discharged. George Kasparian
