: Trying to find info on my uncle who was shot down on July 31, 1944 on a raid on Munich. He was flying as a substitute co-pilot on a 452nd BG airplane tail no. 2102575 with a pilot named Williams. I believe this is correct info but trying to find anyone who knew him and can give me further info.
: Thanks,

Hello Richard,

According to Project Bits and Pieces, your uncle,
2Lt Clyde F. Wells, was flying as co-pilot on
42-102535 -Q "Lovely Lady" of the 729th Squadron of the 452nd Bomb Group on 31 July 1944 when it failed to return due to flak and crashed at Munich, Germany. The MACR 7751 is available free of charge by contacting Lynn.Gamma@MAXWELL.AF.MIL
Crew list:
2Lt Mason M. Williams (P) KIA
2Lt Clyde F. Wells (CP) KIA
2Lt Marion H. Ward (N) POW
FO Robert J. Gamble (B) KIA
S/Sgt Russell G. Blakely (TT) KIA
S/Sgt Louis Borella (RO) POW
Sgt Verle L. Winger (BT) KIA
Sgt Joseph C. Ersek (WG) KIA
Cpl Roman Fedak (TG) KIA

Possibly the two survivors are still alive and can be found through the 452nd BG. You can go to www.armyairforces.com/dbgroups.asp?Group=264. Look for a post about Association, Website and Reunions. There should be some contacts that may be able to help you.

Vic
