Just want to see if there are any former Army/Air Force
personnel that was stationed at the now closed RAF
Willingale Air Station, near Ongar Essex.
I was just a young boy that lived in Stondon Massey about 3 miles from Willingale, and many of the Yanks as we used to call them would either walk or ride there bikes to the only pub in the village called 'The Bricklayers Arms' and used to attend the Saturday Dances at the local Ex Serviceman's Club where my grandfather Bert Booty used to be one of the members there. Ernie Banes who lost his right leg in WW1 was the caretaker of the Club. I am 73 years old now and it is likely that there are not many of the former military personnel that were stationed there still alive, but if there is anyone I would like to hear from you. I came to the USA with my folks in 1949 and joined the US Air Force in 1953 and retired in 1977 with 24 years. I have been back to Essex on many occassions over the years and visited the ghost station that we all knew as Willingale.
Regards...David
