B-17 crashed in Germany...would a German record exist?

My wife’s uncle’s B-17 was shot down March 6, 1944 and crashed near Twist (close to the Dutch-German border. He was killed. Would the details of the crash site been recorded by some German authority? If so, which one? What information might this record have? Does anyone know how to get access to this information…if it exists?
