: Have found photos at 91st BG website, but I suspect one might be of wrong plane.Photo that I think is correct A/C is not clear enough that I can tell if natural alum. or OD. Also would love to have color photo of nose art(bet that ain't gonna happen)
Hi Tracy,
I think the photo of 42-31982 'Superstitious Aloysius' you found on the 91st BG Web Site, is indeed the right picture of this B-17.
According to Wally Forman's book 'B-17 Nose Art Name Directory', there were quite a lot of B-17's with this name below are some of them....
94thBG/410thBS serial# 42-5901 No pic available.
95thBG/335thBS serial# 42-6098 No Pic available.
100thBG/350thBG serial# 42-37807 " " "
381stBG/535thBS serial# 42-37923 " " "
Apart from the nose art picture of the 91stBG/322ndBS aircraft 42-31982 carrying this nose art name, the only other picture I have come across, is a second B-17 of the 100thBG/350thBS serial# 42-31049 also named 'Superstitious Al-o-ysius'.
I will e-mail you a couple more different pics of the 91stBG aircaft in question, and one of the 100thBG aircraft that has a picture available.
Think you could be right in betting a color photo of the 91stBG 'Superstitious Aloysius' will not turn up, but hey, you never know !! LOL
Cheers,
Moofy
