I think Finn found your 1944 crash! Not on May 28, as you thought, but on March 8.
The a/c was B-17G 42-30340 of the 388th Bomb Group, 563rd Bomb Squadron. Nickname Screaming Red Ass.
Nine of ten crewmembers died, only one (radio operator T/Sgt H. Quick) survived.
