Hello to all!
An eyewitness from Ummendorf (a village near
Wefensleben, Eilsleben; westwards of Magdeburg,)told me his experiences in the war jears when he was a school boy.
1.In all probability summer 1943:
"A bomber had crashed near Ummendorf (in the night?,
on the day?). Plane was complete demolished and lay
brocken in many pieces on a field.
6 burnt dead fliers and one flier alive but seriously
wounded. He died some hours later on transport
to the hospital.
The 6 burnt dead fliers were put into 3 coffins,
(2 fliers in one coffin at a time because their bodys
had only the half of the original height) and were
buried at the Ummendorf cemetery.".
2. In all probability in the late summer months
in 1944(?):
"Two big planes and two little planes on the sky.
We heard the shooting of machine guns.
We could see one of the little planes went down.
One of the big planes flew smoking in the
Eggenstedt-Oschersleben direction together with
the other little plane.
The second big plane went down north of Ummendorf.
We were running over a stubble field (I believe?)
to the crashlocation (about 2km from Ummendorf).
During our group of young boys was running to the
field, we were suddenly attacked and shooten by the
small plane, wich had come back, but he failed us.
At the crash place we saw the big plane relative
intact laying on the field, the fuselage was broken.
No one of the crew was on board.
(Later it was told that the entire crew had become
POW.)
Not far away from that place (probably 300 m) we
could see the crashlanded little plane.
It was a German fighter only with slightly
damagings. Pilot was not to be seen."
Thats in short words the report from the eyewitness.
Has anyone an idea for the date and the involved
planes and crews?
