: I'm looking for information on a B17 F which crashed in Lough Foyle, Ireland in September 1942. Ideally I'd love a rough position for the wreck, but any info would be of interest. The aircraft was called The Melton Pot & was being flown to Europe by Capt. Curt Melton.

: Thanks,

: Joe

Hi Joe,

306th Bomb Group 368th Bomb Squadron.

Capt. William Curtis Melton was the pilot of B-17 serial# 41-24516 'Melting Pot'. After losing two engines the a/c ditched in the sea off Magillian's Point, Co. Londonderry, Northern Ireland ,on 6th September 1942.
This a/c was was on a flight from Gander, Newfoundland bound for Prestwick.
As the a/c landed in shallow water, all 10 crew members were able to walk ashore, and were able to return to duty. However, their aircraft was lost on the next high tide.
I will e-mail you the crew list and a bit more information.
Cheers,
Moofy
