If you could get a copy of Freenan's "The Mighty Eighth" from your library, it describes and shows much better than I could. In NMF, the important thing is that squadron codes were not used until after VE day. The a/c serial number and plane's radio call sign were in black on the vertical tail. The squadron color nose band for the 4th BS was white and for the 7th BS it was yellow.
