: Any one with information on my mother's first cousin 2nd Lt. Wendell R. Buck, co-pilot on a 489th Bomb Group, 845th Bomb Squadron Olive drab & gray B-24J "Rebel Gal" with nose art. Pilot was Hugh Carroll. I'm trying to research my mom's cousin's combat career for a short story in Air Classics Magazine. I need mission details and photos if available.

Hi Steve,
Not much on "Rebel Gal" other than the serial number 42-94838 S4 -S, The plane made it through the war and was returned to the US 3 June 1945 and was at Altus, OK 3 Oct 1944 and presumably scrapped along with a multitude of other great birds.
You might try posting on the 489th forum at www.armyairforces.com/dbgroups.asp?Group=299. Look for a post about 489th Association, Website and Reunions. There should be some links and contacts that may be able to help you.
