I have spent 30 years trying to get the Purple Heart that I feel is due my father. He was a B-17 pilot, shot down, and taken prisoner. He received injuries when taken prisoner, but there are no records so I just hit dead ends. I have also sought help for my mother, who hardly received anything in the way of compensation for his military service and internment. Everyone I try to contact seems interested in helping at first, then they just drop it. My dad's co-pilot was awarded his Purple Heart, and also in the last few years was compensated monetarially. I went the same route to no avail.
