I am hoping someone can help me find which Bomb Group and Squadron Sgt. Reuben Ivar Lehto belonged to. His grandson contacted me for help because he found a crew pic of taken while his granddad was training with the 398th BG in Rapid City. He transferred out after training but we cannot find to which group. The grandson found some papers which narrows things down a bit (he was with the 3rd Bombardment Division)with dates that may be helpful: Departed to ETO on Nov. 23, 1943 arrived on Dec. 14, 1943. Came back to USA on June 9, 1944. Decorations rcvd: Air Medal w. 5 Oak Leaf Clusters GO #63 8th AF 16 Feb 44. Purple Heart GO #49 3rd BD 20 Mar 44 and DFC. Good Conduct Medal #90 HQ 3 BD 3 May 44. His grandson says he was wounded over Berlin, mission date March 8, 1944.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated... it's the same story guys, "My granddad never talked much about the war and now he's gone".
