: My uncle, George Taylor, flew 25 missions in Joho's Jokers of 388th BG based at Knettishall. He was killed (not in Joho Jokers but another unnamed aircraft) returning from a mission to Posen on 29 May 1944. His plane came down over Rostock. Six weeks before his death he had married an Englishwoman, my aunt (still alive and living near Manchester, England.
: I would be very grateful for any information about him.

If your uncle was George Walter Taylor, A.S.N. 6144607, he was KIA on 4/11/44, flying the left waist on B17G #42-97255. The plane belonged to the 563rd Sq. of the 388th BG, and my late mother's FIRST husband, 2nd Lt. Wilbur J. Osterkamp, was the pilot.
Taylor had been a SGT., and was busted to PVT. (why I don't know) in late '43, or early '44. He was re-promoted to SGT. a couple of weeks after the crew was shot down.
All 10 men were KIA. No bodies were ever recovered (at least not identified).
Look for an email from me.
