My favorite scene is at the very beginning when Major Stovall, Ground Exec. on his return to England sees and buys a Toby Mug, returnes to Alconbury and closes his eyes.
My wife and I visited Parham AAF, Framlinghan,Suffolk, home of the 380th BG.
While standing on the balcony of the restored control tower I too closed my eyes. It was a very moving moment. Although not a WW II vet (USAF 1950-53)I could only stand there and give THANKS to all those young men who fought to keep us free.
Dean Jagger who played Harvy Stovall won the 1949 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role.
I have read the book and after reading the other comments here I watched the movie.
