DFC for crews who had completed 35 missions?

Hello,

Today I was speaking with a veteran of the 487th Bomb Group who said he heard that crews who had flown 35 missions during WWII were to be awarded DFC's.

Has anyone heard this, and if it is true, how would a veteran or their family apply for this?
