My dad, Staff Sergeant J.D.(i.o.)Warren from Texas served in the Eighth Air Force with the 392nd Bombardment Group (H)in England. His position was that of tail gunner on a B-24 Liberator & operated a turret mounted machine gun in the B-17 bomber. His tour of duty 1942-1944 in the American Theater Campaign was composed of 18 anti-submarine patrol missions over the coastal area surrounding the British Isles and 12 operational flights over Germany and enemy-occupied Europe including the battle or campaign Rhineland Northern France(GO 33 WD 45)under Brigadier General Leon Johnson. I have a picture of him and his men with their airship the "Dixie Jewel". In the picture there are 9 men including my dad who has a fishing type hat on (it is different from everyone else's). My dad returned in May 1944 and married my mom, Bernice, in June of 1944 and then I was born on August 9, 1945, my brother followed on March 4, 1947. My mom was expecting my second brother J.D. Warren, Jr. when my dad was killed in a train/truck collision in Harris County, Texas on January 26, 1948. I have been told over and over again what a wonderful guy my dad was but I have always felt so robbed. If anyone reading this knew my dad when he was stationed in England or as Gunnery Instructor on the B-17, B-24 & B-29's at AAF TGS Tyndall Field, Florida, or at Langley Field in VA or in Charleston, SC or Harlingen, TX, I truly would love to hear from you. I have been told he smoked cigars but not cigarettes. I do have some pictures that he took while in England and other places of service. I don't know much about them except which one he is. They are very precious and anything anyone can add to them or if you can tell me anything you remember about my dad it will be equally treasured!!!
Thanking you in advance for your response,
Warmest Regards,
Angela Warren Orlando
