Many thanks, if I understand correctly John Slater was born in 1913 so, if still alive, would be c92 yrs. Assume his second name is kept private so we can't hope to trace him or his family today from the name alone. Since posting my original enquiry I have uncovered 4 more dog-tags belonging to John Slater - these are copper whereas the first 2 I found were stainless steel.
