311th FS 27th ATG My father and crew left Grove, England 7 nov 1944. The plane crashed in the mountains outside Thones, France not Grenoble as gov't records say. All aboard died and the bodies were found the following summer. The townspeople spent 4 months on the mountain recovering the bodies which were encased in ice from the glacier. They had 30 conscription Germans they made use ice picks to get through the ice so the bodies could be brought down the mountain. I have the documentation and have been to the crash site.
