0.50 Browning Projectiles - Coloured Tips

OK...a plea for help...

I've 'Googled myself out' trying to find any reference to what colours were used on tips of Browning Machine Gun .50 caliber projectiles on USAAF B-24's and B-17's. I know some were silver, blue, red etc. and that they were for High Explosive rounds, Tracers, Armour Piercing etc. ...but what colour went with what type of round?

I found some red tipped bullets on a crash site this week and trying to track down what they are is driving me nuts!

Somebody please put me out of my misery..
