: Hello , my name is Tim Horton . Some years ago , Mr. Conway Lumpkin sent me a list of the missions my Uncle Harry had flown . It was great , it had the dates , target bombed , B - 17 flown , etc . My wife was on a cleaning binge a few weeks ago , and tossed it . Can anyone help me replace it ? My Uncle was T/Sgt Harry J . Horton , top turret gunner / engineer . He was in the 92nd bomb group ( H ) , 327th bomb sqdn . The pilot was 1st Lt. John R . Wilder . Nine of the crew were KIA on March 6th , 1944 , tail gunner , S/Sgt. Orlando Maiocco was taken POW by the Germans . Anyone who could help me , would be my new best friend !
: Thanks alot , Tim Horton
Hi Tim,
My reference shows that your uncle was flying on 42-97527 but indicates that the pilot was Lt Rex M. Townsend. It shows that S/Sgt Orlando D. Maiocco was the tail gunner and only survivor and became a POW. The MACR 2996 should give you the details and is available free of charge by contacting Lynn.Gamma@MAXWELL.AF.MIL.
You might have some luck contacting someone at the 92nd BG at www.armyairforces.com/dbgroups.asp?Group=113. Look for a post (maybe the first one) about Association, Website and Reunions. There should be some links and contacts that may give you some help in replacing what you lost.
My brother was also KIA on this same date on the mission to Berlin.
