Hi Matthias,

Both these aircraft belonged to the 96thBG.
42-5953 'Skin and Bones' 338thBS
piloted by Lt. George Davis.

42-30518 'Short Stride lV' 413thBS
Piloted by Lt. Jim McLean

It was Mission #67 'Munster, Germany' for the 96thBG on 4th January 1944.
As soon as the attacking formation doglegged to start the IP, they were momentarily blinded as they faced directly into the sun. This was responsible for the mid-air collision of these two aircraft.
No chutes were reported as being seen, but three members of Lt. McLean's aircraft survived, and became POW's. Sadly the other crew members were KIA, and all the crew of Lt. Davis's crew perished.

42-5953 is listed as CR Gronau, Germany.
MACR# 2017

42-30518 is listed as CR Lingen, Germany.
MACR# 2016

I will e-mail you the crew lists, but do not know of any photo's are available of the crews of these two aircraft.

Cheers,
Moofy
