This was definitely B-17F 42-30624 of th 94th Bomb Group, 322nd Bomb Squadron. Shot down by fighters. Five crewmembers bailed out to be captured, five others were killed in action (the navigator died of wounds on October 4).
Pilot was 1/Lt Cleo C. Struble.
