I am searching for a 1st Lt. John. S. O'Malley,O-723116, Address in January, 1945. 351st BG, 508th BS, APO 557.

No one in the Associations related to those units has been able to find any reference to a 1st Lt. O'Malley.

Lt. O'Malley is reported to have been a B-17 Pilot, who had completed his missions and was assigned to flying another 15 missions, flying "scrap metal," what ever that referred to at the time. Perhaps bombs or ferrying damaged aircraft around?

Lt. O'Malley met a WAC Cpl. in London and they knew each other for three days. They were "Just good friends!" Now a Grandmother, the Cpl. has always wondered what happened to him, as his last letter to her is dated 28 January 1945, in which he states he was leaving on a mission.

They had exchanged several letters, but after that date,he never answered any of her letters. She still wonders what happened to him?

So far, all searches for POW, RTD, MIA, KIA or other status has failed to locate such a person.

To date, we have found no reference to anyone of that exact name, rank, or as a flying Officer.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
