: 2nd Lt. Homer L. Hocker of the 365th BS, flying as tail gunner in the lead aircraft of my father's group on July 14, 1943, observed enemy aircraft attack my father's aircraft, the Windy City Challenger, No. 42-3049. Does anyone know him and where he can be located? I do not know what plane he was flying on, nor anything else about him. I obtained this information from my father's MACR. Thanks for any info people can offer.

Hi Nancy,
Lt. Homer L. Hocker was Co-Pilot with the Lt. Raymond P. Bullock Crew.
Their aircraft was shot down on 14th Oct. 43 Schweinfurt. All 10 crew members survived and became POW.
I have found the address of Homer's in the 1996 305thBG Roster and Roll Of Honor, and it was listed as New Port Beach, CA.

Sadly on checking the SSDI I found the following...

HOMER L HOCKER 22 Sep 1919 10 Jan 2001 V 81 Newport Beach, Orange, CA 92660 (not specified) California 569-07-9799 Search GenCircles
SS-5 Letter

I can let you have the full crew list, of when Lt. Bullock's crew went down on the 14.10.43, but of course, I do not know if these same crew members were together on the same a/c for the mission your dad's a/c went down on 14. 7.43.

Cheers,
Moofy
