: : With the ceremonies this past weekend to commemorate the 60th anniversary of V-E Day, I wonder who was the last person from the 8th AF to be killed in WWII?

: Hi Annette,

: This is strictly from memory but I believe the book "Wings of Morning" by Thomas Childers is about the "Black Cat" 42-25592 of the 466th Bomb Group, which was the last bomber downed in the ETO on 21 April 1945. There were 10 KIA and 2 POWs. The pilot was Lt. Richard Farrington and the MACR 14182 covers the AC and crew. I can hunt up the crew names if you wish.

: Someone else may correct me if I am wrong in saying this is the last bomber and there is certainly a possibility that these were not the last casualties from the 8th Air Force. That may be hard to determine.

: Vic
