Thanks, George and Keith, for your input. I don't have actual stats, but I will find them, Just from instinct or having studied this subject for close to 40 years, I am sure the RAF dropped more than anyone else and my bet would be on the Liberator. But the question is "number of bombs"not tonnage. The 8th did use 200 pound antipersonnel bombs before and after D-Day and you could fit 60 in a B-17 bombay (with less than full fuel load). I don't know much about the RAF and the Lancs, but from what I have read, they carried bigger bombs most of the time, and didn't mess around with the puny M-33 500 pound general purpose, demolition bombs.
